The Things We Cannot Change (Season
2 Episode 17) SYNOPSIS: Floating dangerously near a newly formed, spinning black hole, Captain Dylan Hunt (Kevin Sorbo) attempts to gather data in the Eureka Maru. As the crew of Andromeda waits nervously for Dylan to return, a loud explosion rocks the Maru, and Dylan disappears from their sight. When Dylan opens his eyes, he is in a beach house next to his beautiful wife, Liandra (Cynthia Preston). Their little son, Ethan (Ryan Drescher), bursts into the room, and the family lovingly talks about their upcoming day. Back in reality, Tyr (Keith Hamilton Cobb) monitors the scanners, searching for Dylan in the cabin of the Maru, but the radiation prevents him from getting a discernable view. Harper (Gordon Michael Woolvett) proposes they use a slipfighter to get closer to the Maru, and everyone agrees. Once aboard the Maru, Beka (Lisa Ryder) and Tyr discover the entire front window is blown out, and the cockpit is a disaster. Dylan is missing. In Dylan's dream world, he is experiencing flashbacks and general confusion. His wife informs him he is about to retire from the High Guard. The war is over, and peace prevails. Perplexed, Dylan begins to realize something suspicious is happening. When he asks her about the Magog, she tells him they don't exist. She also tells him the crew of Andromeda was killed while trying to save him from a black hole. Horrified, Dylan struggles to understand what is happening. Continuing to scan the open space, Tyr finally locates Dylan. Harper makes adjustments to the teleporter controls, and they begin to pull Dylan towards safety. Suddenly, Dylan's dream world and reality collide. While the transporter tugs at his body, Dylan flickers in and out of consciousness. He awakens long enough to order Harper to shut down the teleporter because it is tearing his body apart. Back in the beach house, Dylan wakes up in the bedroom next to Liandra. He tells her he can't choose between his family and his job because he will always be a High Guard officer. Liandra tries to convince him the High Guard doesn't want him anymore, but Dylan is firm. Meanwhile, Tyr straps on an EVA suit, hitching himself to the ship through a cable. He maneuvers towards Dylan, but the cable is too short. He unhitches the cable and reaches for Dylan. When Dylan tells Liandra he is leaving and questions her motives for torturing him, she replies that he is killing her people. Suddenly, Tyr's hand closes around Dylan's, and he is saved. Back on Andromeda, they discuss Dylan's strange experience. Rommie believes he had symptoms of hypoxia, a lack of oxygen, but Harper thinks there is a race of nasty black hole people who carry a grudge. CAST:
